Cycling from Zandvoort to Noordwijk among the sand dunes on the west coast of Holland makes for a great day out.

The main attraction in Noordwijk is of course the beach. It lures thousands of sun-seeking tourists every year, but for me it’s the melancholy of its bleached out sand, the lighthouse and the slightly out-dated sense of the place – like it got stuck in the 80’s, complete with ice-cream parlors and huge flower shows – that makes it worth a visit.
