Deventer is a beautiful, 1200-year old Dutch city on the banks of the river IJssel. It is best explored by foot, especially the old historic center. You can cross the river by passenger ferry, which runs all day, for a small fee. A walk on the promenade on a beautiful summer day is wonderful.
The city is characterized by beautiful plains, cobblestone streets, magnificent churches, medieval buildings and interesting little shops.
The last weekend before Christmas there is a Dickens Festival that attracts thousands of visitors.
Regular trains connect the city to all major destinations in the Netherlands.
